2 ich sei kein Perser, wenn er wolle, daß ich sie untersuchen solle, so wolle ich es auf

Qirāns wurden zum ersten Mal unter Fatḥ ʿAlī Šāh geprägt, genauer gesagt ab 1826, als er anlässlich des dreißigsten Jubiläums seiner Herrschaft eine neue Gold- und eine neue Silbermünze prägen ließ. Auf der Silbermünze war die Inschrift „Fatḥ ʿAlī Šāh Ḫusrau Ṣāhib-qirān“ eingraviert, weshalb qirān zur offiziellen Bezeichnung dieser Währung wurde, die ab 1826 auch die Standardmünze war.
