Qirāns wurden zum ersten Mal unter Fatḥ ʿAlī Šāh geprägt, genauer gesagt ab 1826, als er anlässlich des dreißigsten Jubiläums seiner Herrschaft eine neue Gold- und eine neue Silbermünze prägen ließ. Auf der Silbermünze war die Inschrift „Fatḥ ʿAlī Šāh Ḫusrau Ṣāhib-qirān“ eingraviert, weshalb qirān zur offiziellen Bezeichnung dieser Währung wurde, die ab 1826 auch die Standardmünze war. Unter seinem Nachfolger Nāṣīr ad-Dīn Šah existierten zwei qirān-Münzen: eine wog 5,37g, die andere 4,99g, beide waren 1000 Dinar wert. (Matthee, Rudi, Willem Floor, und Patrick Clawson.
